ABOUT US

Working to eliminate avoidable blindness

Gift of Sight Foundation is a nonprofit community eye health organization committed to eliminating avoidable blindness through outreach, preventive eye care, health education, vision restoration and strategic partnerships. Working in partnership with Centre for Sight Africa Limited and other stakeholders, we connect underserved populations to high-quality primary and specialist eye care while empowering communities through sustainable vision health programs.

To restore, preserve and protect sight through compassionate community outreach, preventive eye care, vision screening, health education, affordable optical services, strategic partnerships and timely referral for specialist ophthalmic care, thereby improving the quality of life of underserved communities across Africa.

OPTOMETRIST-LED PRIMARY EYE CARE

Our services

Services are delivered by duly licensed optometrists within their professional scope, with referral whenever a condition requires ophthalmology or surgical management.

Comprehensive Eye Examinations

Assessment of vision, refractive status, binocular function and departures from a healthy and visually efficient eye.

Refraction & Vision Correction

Correction of refractive errors using spectacles, contact lenses where available, low-vision aids and other appropriate devices.

Binocular Vision Care

Assessment and management of selected errors of binocularity, including vision training or orthoptic support where appropriate

Minor Ocular Conditions

Diagnosis and management of minor ocular infections that do not threaten the integrity of the ocular or visual system.

Ocular First Aid

Immediate assessment, stabilization, first aid and referral for injuries, acute symptoms or conditions requiring advanced care.

Screening & Prevention

Glaucoma risk assessment, diabetic eye screening, children’s vision screening, low-vision support and public eye-health education.

Community Outreach

School, workplace and community screening programs that identify vision problems early and connect patients to continuing care.

Affordable Optical Services

Prescription spectacles, reading glasses, protective eyewear, low-vision aids and individualized vision counselling.

Referral Coordination

Documented referral and follow-up for cataract, glaucoma, retina, cornea, pediatric, neuro-ophthalmic, trauma and other specialist conditions.

Patient-safety commitment: The clinic is not presented as an on-site surgical centre. Conditions beyond the clinic's available scope, staffing or equipment are referred promptly to a qualified independent ophthalmologist or appropriate specialist eye hospital.

CONTINUITY OF CARE

Specialist ophthalmology referral

Patients who need consultant ophthalmology, advanced diagnostics, laser treatment or surgery may be referred to partner independent ophthalmologists or to Centre for Sight Africa Eye Hospital, depending on clinical need, availability, location and patient preference.

Referral services may include cataract, glaucoma, retina, cornea, pediatric ophthalmology, oculoplastics, neuro-ophthalmology, ocular trauma and other advanced eye-care services.
